Background
The number of youth unemployment is in Indonesia
is big (7.2 million). Most of it is caused by lack of access to education and
information. Providing the underprivileged youth about entrepreneurship will be
one of the best solutions for the problem. Other than that, educating youth
about the importance of environment sustainability for the future is another
important highlight. Thus, we want to link both economy and environmental
aspects by utilizing the environment issue as the background to conduct
entrepreneurship among youth as the agent of change. In addition, we also want
to preserve the local value which is often wise for the environment suitability
within different local entity. On top of that, the local value could also add
the selling point for the environmental friendly products that will be made by
the youth. In brief, this project would at the same time address the three main
issues in Indonesia: youth unemployment, environment awareness and preserving
local value.
Objectives
It is widely known that the system of business economy is heavily dependent on the usage of natural resources. However, it seems that in most developing countries, business economy fails to consider negative environmental externalities and the youth unemployment within underprivileged areas. One of the most salient solutions to deal with such market failures is ecopreneurship, which refers to a process by which entrepreneurs introduce eco-friendly products and process into the marketplace. In YEP Camp, a young entrepreneur is a catalyst who brings together money, people, ideas and resources. The idea in YEP Camp is different from conventional entrepreneurship activity because we want to bridges between environmental sustainability and making profits.
In YEP camp, we will utilize the environmental issues as the background to add more value in the products. For example we want to make sure that the product that we will produce could preserve the nature and create a sustainable environment. Thus, this project begins from the consciousness that environmental challenges can be addressed through the development of environmental products and services that provide business opportunity, sustainable development, and local values. The YEP Camp is a way to teach potential youth in underprivileged areas to tackle global environmental issues and get profit from their business at the same time. Ultimately there are four objectives in this project: 1. Decrease the youth unemployment in three respective provinces because they are able to be innovative by practicing entrepreneurship 2. Rise the environmental awareness among potential young people to understand more about environmental issues based on local value 3. Improve the quality of life of the underprivileged society because their young people could create their own jobs (entrepreneurship) 4. Preserve the local value because it could be utilized as a tool for marketing entrepreneurship products by the youth Targeted Output
1. 30 potential yet underprivileged youth will be trained about both entrepreneurship and environment and how to link them up, in a 3 days camp in Cibodas Botanical Garden.
2. 30 potential youth will be able to produce valuable and eco friendly products that are sold through the connection with NGOs, women society and business/private company. 3. 30 new youth ecopreneurs will be able to independently develop their own business plan and involve their own local community to work together with them. |
